Box & Chess Club

Playing chess and boxing have a lot in common; e.g. they both require a high degree of concentration. The assignment was to create a boxing club and chess school in one building, targeting teens and young adults, while ensuring a clear interaction between the two sports.

Solutions

In my design I created a logical flow from entrance to club by relocating the entrance, while also enabling me to develop a social waiting area. From this area you have a view of the chess club, which is located in a glass ‘tower’ on the second floor and from which you have unobstructed views of the boxing area in the building. The outside was incorporated in the design, ensuring space allocated to both the chess and boxing club and visibility from all locations. The styling and colour scheme was inspired by graffiti. Using bright and bold colours enhances the youthfull vibe in the building.
